A statement from Labor Opposition Leader Steven Miles:

Queenslanders deserve to know what advice the government received to inform their latest tranche of Making Queensland Safer Laws.

The Independent Expert Panel must front the Justice Committee, and the committee must release the panel's full report including consultation results, the crime data, case law, harm indexes, victim impact analysis and the advice provided to government.

I have sent the Shadow Attorney-General and the Shadow Youth Justice Minister to attend the Justice Committee meeting to ensure all avenues are pursued to bring the panel before the committee, and for this advice to be released, and if not have it summonsed

The last batch of bungled laws failed to consult adequately with stakeholders which has led to unintended consequences - something we can't risk happening again.

It is now up to the Government to comply.

BACKGROUND

Minister Gerber told Parliament this week:

"They have engaged in consultations across Queensland with stakeholders and sector service providers, including workers in our youth detention centres, legal professionals and victim support groups. They have reviewed and analysed crime data, case law, harm indexes and the impact of these offences on victims and the broader community."
