David Crisafulli has been caught out doing what he said he wouldn’t – making cuts to the health system.
Reports today reveal the Crisafulli Government will axe an eight-bed peri-natal unit planned for Townsville.
The LNP Government did this despite David Crisafulli telling Parliament on December 10 that there would be no cuts to health and anything contrary was a “scare campaign”.
“What there will be is transparency and honesty,” the Premier said.
“What there will be is a reflection to Queenslanders that they deserve a world-class health system, no matter where they live. These services will not only be funded in line with what has been left but also more money has to be found to keep them operating.”
As we have learnt today, Mr Crisafulli made this pledge eight days after Mater Townsville was told the 8 new perinatal beds would be scrapped.
What else has the Premier and the Health Minister cut and not told Queenslanders.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Health Minister, Mark Bailey:
“This is another broken promise by David Crisafulli and one that will have devastating impact on new and expectant mothers.
“David Crisafulli has already stopped the Townsville Hospital expansion, scrapped the Workforce Attraction Scheme, Transfer Initiative Nurses, and slashed services at Nurse-Led Clinics.
“He has done this all the while telling Queenslanders there would be no cuts to the health system.
“David Crisafulli said there would be transparency and honesty – and yet he’s kept this decision from Queenslanders since December 2.”
