  • TMR says Barron River Bridge business case is complete

  • Despite calling the project a priority the LNP are dragging their feet on releasing a business case and announcing a solution

The LNP must reveal its Barron River Bridge “solution” and release the completed project business case.

Speaking from Cairns on Friday Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick and Cairns MP Michael Healy questioned why the business case had not been released given the project was deemed a priority by the LNP Government.

The LNP’s long-term solution for the bridge is still unknown, with the government instead offering mixed messages on whether they will rebuild it, or merely fix the existing structure.

Labor at the election committed to rebuilding the Barron River Bridge.

Quotes attributable to Deputy Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Cameron Dick:

“My question to Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg, Bree James and David Kempton is where is the business case and why hasn’t it been released?

“It’s been over a week since Queenslanders became aware that the business case had been completed, yet the Crisafulli Government is dragging their feet.

“This government must release the business case and tell Queenslanders what their solution is for this aging bridge.”

“Quotes attributable to Cairns MP Michael Healy:

“Every day that goes by without the business case being released, or clarity on the long-term solution of the bridge is a slap to the face of all north Queenslanders who put their faith in this LNP government.

“We are now seeing heavy traffic across that bridge with organic waste being diverted to Mareeba, via the Kuranda Range, after a fire at the Cairns landfill site.

“We need an answer.

“Is it going to be fixed, or rebuilt?

“What does the business case say and what is this government hiding?”
