  • Yet another David Crissafulli broken promise

In relation to the Sunshine Coast rail link, David Crisafulli promised residents there it would happen.

But now it’s not happening.

Another broken promise.

When asked about Sunshine Coast rail, David Crisafulli said, “No ifs, no buts, no shortcuts’.

In hindsight, and with the litany of broken promises on everything from health to the Olympics and transport growing daily, perhaps David Crisafulli should have been asked to commit to, “No ifs, no buts, NO BUSES and no shortcuts’.

It raises the question of when, if ever, a Crisafulli Government will deliver a rail link all the way to Maroochydore.

The residents of the Sunshine Coast have every reason to be angered by David Crisafulli’s loose with the truth approach to the Queensland community.

It demonstrates yet again the willingness of LNP MPs on the Sunshine Coast to take the support of their communities for granted without delivering in return for that support.

It’s a lesson Gold Coast residents have learned time and again with their LNP MPs similarly spectacularly unsuccessful in delivering vital infrastructure.

Throughout the election campaign David Crisafulli and Jarrod Bleijie promised again and again that the Sunshine Coast rail could be built in time for the 2032 Olympics.

Now we know that won’t happen.

Another backflip, another broken promise.

Quotes attributable to Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick:

“David Crisafulli’s willingness to break promises and perform backflips has reached the point where Queenslanders can no longer, if they ever could, take him at his word.

“Before the election David Crisafulli promised the Sunshine Coast rail link to Maroochydore would go ahead, because he clearly figured it was a winner with voters.

“But having won the election he’s decided he’d take a shortcut, renege on the promise, not deliver the rail link, and instead provide buses.

“That is a terribly cynical way to conduct yourself in public life, and is an insight into David Crisafulli’s true character.

“The bottom line is the people of the Sunshine Coast have been dudded, they’ve been misled, and the promised rail link has come up well short.

“It is a disgrace.”

Quotes attributable to Shadow Transport Minister Bart Mellish:

“This broken promise now raises very real doubts about when, or whether, a David Crisafulli Government will ever deliver the rail link to Maroochydore.

“I am astounded by this about-face.

“David Crisafulli was unequivocal, ‘No ifs, no buts, no shortcuts’.

“He should have also said no buses.

“But that’s the hollow outcome the people of the Sunshine Coast will get.

“Buses, not trains.

“We’ve heard the LNP is considering privatising this service to help pay for it, which could only be done by jacking up fares, yet another broken promise.

“I have no doubt the people of the Sunshine Coast will not forget the way they have been misled and deceived by David Crisafulli and the LNP.”
